Real support. Real growth. From anywhere in Maryland.

Why virtual therapy in Maryland matters

Therapy that fits between Beltway traffic and bedtime.

Maryland is one of the most commute-heavy states in the country. Between the I-270 crawl, 495 at rush hour, and the bridge backups out to the Eastern Shore, the idea of driving an hour each way for a 50-minute therapy appointment is a non-starter for most people who actually need care.

That is the gap our virtual practice was built to close. Whether you are working a federal job in Bethesda, raising kids in Howard County, finishing a shift at Johns Hopkins, or living somewhere in Western Maryland where the nearest in-network therapist is over an hour away, you should not have to choose between consistent mental health care and the rest of your life.

Statewide care, with no driving required.

Sanare clinicians see clients from Cumberland to Ocean City to Salisbury, and every county in between. If you have a private space and an internet connection, you have a therapist.

Truly in-network

The insurance plans Marylanders actually carry.

A lot of therapy practices say they “accept” insurance and quietly mean they will hand you a superbill to fight your insurer yourself. We don’t do that. Sanare is contracted in-network with the six insurers below — the same plans that cover state employees, federal workers, teachers, and most Maryland families. We bill your insurance directly. Most clients pay between $0 and $50 per session, depending on plan and deductible.

How Maryland licensing works

Every clinician is licensed by the state of Maryland.

Online therapy is legal and effective — but in mental health, your provider has to be licensed in the state where you are sitting during the session. Not where the company is headquartered. Not where their head office is. Where you, the client, physically are.

Every Sanare therapist is licensed by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists or the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners, and our psychiatric providers are credentialed through the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing. That means you are getting state-regulated, jurisdiction-correct care — not a national app routing you to a clinician in another time zone.

No worksheets-only therapy. No “just breathe” advice.

Our team works in evidence-based modalities — CBT, ACT, EMDR, trauma-informed care, parts work, motivational interviewing — but we are clinicians first, not algorithms. You do not have to feel this way forever, and the work you do here is meant to actually change how the rest of your week feels.

What we treat

Start where life feels heavy.

Maryland-licensed care for the things that actually bring people in — not just the headline diagnoses, but the in-between weeks.

Psychiatry, in-house

Therapy and medication management under one roof.

Sometimes therapy is enough. Sometimes medication is the right addition. And sometimes the hardest part is just figuring out which one you need — without bouncing between three different practices to get there.

Sanare’s psychiatric services are integrated directly with our therapy team. Your therapist and your prescriber can actually talk to each other. Refills, dose adjustments, and side-effect check-ins happen inside the same practice you’re already a part of.

01

Integrated team

Therapists and psychiatric providers coordinate care, so you are not the messenger.

02

Evaluations & med management

Diagnostic assessments, ongoing follow-ups, and thoughtful prescribing — not a 15-minute med refill mill.

03

In-network too

Psychiatric services accept the same Maryland insurance plans as our therapy team.

Common questions

Maryland-specific answers.

The things people actually call (240) 363-4181 to ask.

Do you cover the entire state of Maryland?

Yes. Because all care is virtual, we serve clients in every Maryland county and ZIP code — from Cumberland and Hagerstown in the west, to Baltimore and the I-95 corridor, down to Salisbury and out to Ocean City. If you are physically in Maryland during your session, you can work with our team.

Are you in-network with my Maryland insurance plan?

We are truly in-network — meaning we bill them directly, not through a reimbursement workaround — with six plans: CareFirst BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Maryland Medicaid, and Optum. If your plan is one of those, most clients end up paying $0–$50 per session depending on copay and deductible. If you are not sure, our team can verify your benefits before you book.

Do you accept Maryland Medicaid?

Yes. Maryland Medicaid is one of our in-network plans, including managed care organizations that administer Medicaid benefits in the state. This is one of the things that makes us different from most virtual practices — many won’t touch Medicaid at all.

How fast can I get an appointment?

Most new clients are seen within a week of reaching out. After a brief intake call, our team matches you with a clinician based on your concerns, schedule, and insurance — rather than just routing you to whoever has the next open slot.

Do you serve teens?

Yes. We have clinicians who specialize in adolescent mental health — school stress, anxiety, identity, family conflict, and the parts of being a teenager that don’t have easy answers. See our teen counseling page for more.

Can I get medication and therapy in the same place?

Yes. Our in-house psychiatric team provides evaluations and medication management that coordinate directly with your therapist. One practice, one record, one care plan. Learn more about psychiatric services.

What if I’m in crisis right now?

Sanare is not a crisis service and we do not provide 24/7 emergency care. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, please call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), go to your nearest emergency room, or call 911. Once you are safe, we are here when you are ready for ongoing care.

Ready when you are

You do not have to have the perfect words. Just start.

Tell us what’s going on and which insurance you carry. We’ll match you with a Maryland-licensed clinician — usually within a week — and handle the benefits piece so you don’t have to. Call (240) 363-4181 or request a consult below.
