Therapy for Federal Employees in Maryland

Therapy for federal employees in Maryland

Federal-friendly therapy across Maryland.

Federal work in Maryland comes with its own pressures — clearance worries, agency culture, the constant churn of administration changes, an outsized share of caregiving and helping work. Sanare Counseling Group is in-network with the FEHB plans most Maryland feds carry. Confidential, evidence-based, and built around real federal schedules.

Who we work with

Maryland federal workforce.

Our clients come from across the federal workforce. Agencies represented include:

Defense and intelligence. NSA, NRO, NGA, DIA, DoD civilians, contractors with clearances. We understand what we can and can’t ask about.

Health and science. NIH, FDA, NIST, CDC field, USDA, CMS, HHS. Long careers in service often come with burnout.

Justice and security. FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals, CBP. Work stress and second-hand trauma we take seriously.

Civilian and policy. EPA, HUD, USPS, Treasury, IRS, State. Quieter pressures that still wear people down.

What we treat

What federal employees come in with.

Burnout and chronic stress

Years of high-demand work, leadership turnover, mission fatigue. Recovery is possible without leaving the role.

Anxiety and clearance worry

The fear of “what if therapy goes on my record” is itself a barrier we address directly. We understand the questions on the SF-86.

Career transitions

RIF anxiety. Retirement on the horizon. Wondering whether to leave. The identity shift around fed service is real.

Second-hand trauma

For people working in justice, security, child protection, public health emergencies — exposure adds up over decades.

Common questions

What federal employees ask.

Will therapy affect my security clearance?

Question 21 of the SF-86 changed in 2008 to specifically exclude routine mental health care from disclosure for most circumstances. Seeking therapy itself does not jeopardize clearance — in fact the federal government actively encourages it. We’re familiar with the specific question wording and can discuss what does and doesn’t need to be reported.

Is therapy confidential from my agency?

Yes. HIPAA protects your sessions. Your agency does not have access to your therapy records. Insurance claims contain coded diagnostic information visible only to the insurance carrier, not your employer.

Can I use my federal EAP first?

Yes. Many feds use their EAP (typically 6-8 free sessions) and then transition to ongoing therapy with us. We accept EAP referrals from major providers.

What about Tricare for military spouses or retirees?

We do not currently accept Tricare. If your spouse is military and you have a different secondary insurance, we likely accept that.

What scheduling works for federal hours?

We offer early-morning, lunchtime, and evening slots across all six time zones our team covers. Most clients book a recurring 45-minute weekly slot.
